“An artist is given talent in order that he may give to life his share of creation and increase the flow of life.”
— Kazimir Malevich, 1915
Guillermo Creus was born in Argentina and raised in Porto Alegre, Brazil, where he began his artistic practice. After completing undergraduate studies in South America, he moved abroad to pursue graduate studies, earning an MFA from Columbia University in New York, where he was based for many years.
His work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across the United States, Europe, Asia, and Latin America. Alongside his studio practice, he has also developed curatorial, collaborative, and artist-run projects internationally, working across exhibitions, independent initiatives, and platforms supporting dialogue between artists from diverse cultural and geographic contexts.
After a years-long pause from his studio practice, Creus returned to painting in 2023. He currently divides his time between Nagano, Japan and New York City. His recent work increasingly engages with Japanese materials and techniques, particularly sumi ink, within a contemporary context.
